-and [lat. -andus, a, um]: Suffix des Gerundivums lateinischer, auf -are auslautender Verben, das abgeleiteten Substantiven eine passivische Bed. verleiht, z. B. Ligand (etwas zu Bindendes), Konfirmand, Doktorand. Dagegen gibt es keinen »zu reagierenden Stoff (= Reaktand)«, und ein Carcerand muss der einzukerkernde und nicht der einschließende Stoff sein.
